Acorn Class have really enjoying reading their books out in the sunshine! Some have even been spotted reading at lunch!
Seed swap
Our seed swap is proving very popular. Come along and swap or donate plants please. Thanks for your support. Year 6 (on behalf of all at Doddi).
Exploring Doddiscombsleigh
Today in Acorn Class we have been learning about what makes Doddiscombsleigh special. We went exploring around the village looking for places like the church, school, bus stop and even the post box!k
Church Visit
Yesterday, Acorn Class throughly enjoyed their trip to the church to consolidate the learning that they have been doing in RE this term. They really impressed Rev Ruth and Rev Eleanor with their knowledge of the Easter story, as well as their understanding of why it is such a special celebration for Christians. We would like to thank Rev Ruth and Rev Eleanor for their time and we look forward to seeing them again next week for our Easter assembly in school.
Christmas crafts #2
After the class made their incredible cards, here’s the latest effort – Christmas mobiles! Fantastic determination with an awesome end result . Lots of very proud children and rightly so.
A teacher’s favourite game…
This time of year children and teachers love playing games…not sure who’s enjoying these 5 minutes the most…
Acorn visit the beach
Last week we visited Dawlish Warren as part of our Geography topic. We saw lots of different coastal features and had great fun playing on the beach. We met with a ranger who showed us the wildlife in the Nature Reserve which was interesting. It was very cold but we played tug of war (against Mr Collings – we won obviously!), running races and built sandcastles to keep warm. We had tonnes of sand in our shoes but everyone had a great time.

Design and Technology
Acorn are designing and creating bird boxes. They’ve researched a range of creations and come up with their own drawings and designs. They have learnt how to use tools safely and also which is the best method to join wood. Now we’re in the process of construction – once complete, we’ll be evaluating the project. Busy!
Acorn on an adventure!
On Wednesday we delved into the depths of Doddi. We had to make a den to escape the wild tigers and in order to return to the classroom, we had to scale an enormous bank that required a rope to help. All children showed incredible determination and teamwork and were thrilled to make it back in one piece! An epic afternoon!
Shock horror!!!
Acorn Class children have been writing on the tables! Fear not, they’ve been having great fun and it’s allowed. A tremendously engaging phonics lesson where the children didn’t want to stop. The last picture is an alien word the children have to be able to read. Can you name the type of sound?
